I have long ago removed Awesome from my ongoing game of seven years now and have had no issues with teen-older. Hope I haven't been contributing to the spreading of some sort of urban legend all this time.

The history is that Pescado did not want to allow teen-older. It's not that teen-older remain forbidden, it's that the effects of doing so cannot be bypassed. If you attempt to get around this by removing Awesome from an ongoing game and have sims do teen-older, again your game will crash because it will have been "booby-trapped."
If you further attempt to bypass that effect, the mod is programmed to intentionally crash the game on you. If you use the Awesome config file to allow teen-older romance and woohoo, then the sims participating in those activities will be branded with negative labels and thus some serious repercussions for the rest of their lives. config.php under "Gameplay Features - Romance & Perversion". I haven't tested it, but it's definitely available via the tuning file configuration. I use Awesomemod and with the tuning file you can allow teen/adult romance and even woohoo.
